We sell 2 types of kettlebell. Cast Iron and Competition style.

The quality of kettlebells is of great importance, and it is often only when you experience a high quality kettlebell that you appreciate how much better they are. We only sell high quality kettlebells and they are the style and make that that I personally use.

The cast Iron kettlebells are the more traditional style and as the weight goes up, so do the dimensions of the bell.

The Competition style kettlebells are made of steel and all the same dimensions. They are hollow inside which allows for the change of weight.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Cast Iron Kettlebells

Cast Iron kettlebells tend to be smaller than the competition kettlebells. This is ideal for the smaller framed person.

I would reccomend cast iron kettlebells for ladies who want to progress to using double kettlebells, but do not wish to compete in the future. Remember that ladies only compete with 1 single kettlebell and men compete with 2 (doubles).

Advantages:

  • Sturdy High quality construction
  • Perfect distance between bell and handle to prevent stressing on the wrist,
  • Colours match the competition colours,
  • Solid iron, flat bottomed, base meaning good low center of gravity for drills that require the bell to be on the floor,
  • Cheaper than competition kettlebells.

Disadvantages:

  • When you change for a heavier weight the physical size of the bell will increase requiring a slight change of technique.

Competition Kettlebells

Competition Kettlebells are all a standard shape and size. They are hollow inside which allows the difference in weight.

The dimensions are internationally recognised and they are used in competition to ensure that all competitors are using the same standard size and shape.

I personally only use competition style kettlebells. I much prefere them and recommend them to the majority of our students. If you wish to compete they are vital to train with. However smaller framed people, women especially, may prefere to use the cast iron style when training with double kettlebells as they are quite large to swing between you legs. Remember that ladies only compete with 1 single kettlebell and men compete with 2 (doubles).

Advantages:

  • Standard dimensions accross the weights,
  • No change of technique when changing weight,
  • Large flat base for floor based drills,
  • Sturdy High quality construction

  • Perfect distance between bell and handle to prevent stressing on the wrist,
  • Colour coded to help identification,
  • Solid steel, flat bottomed, base meaning good low center of gravity for drills that require the bell to be on the floor,

Disadvantages:

  • Can be cumbersome for smaller framed people when trying to use double kettlebells
  • More expensive than cast iron bells.

THE GSU COMPETITION KETTLEBELL

The Competition Kettlebells we offer are the highest quality available in the UK. They are the standard style, shape and dimensions used in all domestic and International Competitions. These are by far the best quality kettlebells I have ever trained with, and I only use these to train for competitions.

Here is what the manufacturer has to say about them:

After extensive consultation with the UKs leading authorities on Girevoy Sport, Wolverson set out to design and produce the next generation in competition Kettlebells.

The result is the Wolverson GS Competition Kettlebell.

Compliant with both the International Union of Kettlebell Lifting (IUKL) and the Girevoy Sport Union (GSU) standards and constructed using the most up to date casting methods we have produced a kettlebell that has a number of unique design features:

1. 35mm thick bare metal handles with a newly designed handle. The new casting methods we employ guarantee a consistent handle shape and thickness whilst improving the grip and comfort.

2.The redesigned and now “ergonomic” handles have a uniform clearance and shape across the entire range with the new design providing a larger area of contact when the kettlebell is in a racked position than all previous designs. This means higher reps and more comfort!

3. The new construction method increases accuracy of the weight specified to around +/- 100g.

4. No More Rattle! with other competition Kettlebells you may have experienced an occasional rattle as the filling inside the KB settles, With our new design there is actually an open aperture in the base of the KB so this will never happen, and our single piece casting design also means that the base of our Kettlebells really is perfectly flat!
