FAQ Martial Arts

Q: Which of your classes is right for me?

A: It depends on what your goals are.

If your goal is to know you can look after yourself and your loved ones, if you want to learn something fast and effective without having to roll around on the floor with your fellow students, then the VEST class is for you. In this class you will learn fast effective self protection techniques that could potentially save your life.

If you want to immerse yourself into a comprehensive Martial Arts System and all the good stuff that goes along with it, then the CXT class is for you. This class will not only teach you strong, practical fighting skills for the street, but the techniques are directly transferable to the ring or cage, where many of our students have already challenged themselves. In the CXT classes you will be expected to spar and grapple with your fellow students and bruizes and scrapes are a natural part of this process.

Q: Am I going to get beaten up?

A: NO. Not at all. We don't train that way.

Our outlook on training is that you are training with your friends, and everyone has to go to work the next day. No one needs to get injured or hurt.

The way we look at it is that the better we can make you, the more of a challenge you become to us, which results in us getting better. This can only be done by nurturing you and taking everything at your pace.

We are blessed to have had many kind comments about how friendly and helpful our students are to new people starting. This is a vital part of the martial arts philosophy. Bad sparring ettiquette will not be tolerated in our club, and offenders will be expelled.

Sparring is a very physicaly demanding activity, where bruizes and scrapes are a given, however actual injuries are extremely rare. When you feel you are ready to have a go, then you will be welcomed and treated with respect.

Q: Do you do MMA, (Mixed Martial Arts)

A: Yes, and No.

We train Functional Martial Arts. It just happens that one of the best ways to gain the timing and distancing of good fighting skills along with the revelvent movement patterns and fitness is to spar within Mixed Martial Arts rules. This is because all the delivery systems we train in are the same for sport or the street. The only things that change are the tactics. Boxing is boxing whether you are sparring within safe parameters or fighting for your life. The great thing about Mixed Martial Arts is the fact that you can easily flow between all the ranges of hand to hand fighting. This greatly prepares you for more serious issues that you could be dealing with outside of the club.

We also have access to Amateur MMA competition for those wishing to challenge themselves. This is a fantastic way to learn to deal with the issues concerning both pre fight adrenaline release and adrenaline dumps.

Therefore you could say that we train in mixed martial arts.

Q: Will I have to buy loads of equipment to train with you?

A: Initially you don't need to buy anything. We have equipment you can borrow with the exception of gumshields and groin guards.

However when you start to get into it you will probably want to start getting your own equipment. This can be purchased through the club or you can source your own equipment, as long as it meets the safety standards of the club. Ask an instructor for more info on this.

Q: What should I wear to come training?

A: Shorts and a T-shirt is fine.

Q: Can I come and watch a class before taking part?

A: Of course. We always think why watch when you can join in (first session is free) but if you would rather just watch for the first time then you are more than welcome. The first session you join in will still be free.
